To celebrate its 35 year anniversary LOFA will be reminding the retail trade the importance of this sector and pointing out to the general public how fashions in outdoor furniture and leisure have changed in such a short time. Competitions will be announced asking the public to send in pictures of garden furniture bought in the 1960's and 70's and to alert organisers of examples that are still in use today. The anniversary year will culminate with an exciting exhibition at GLEE 2003 where examples of yesterday's and tomorrow's designs will be on show. The general interest in patio furniture and general outdoor living has seen the industry grow again in the 2002 season. LOFA has agreed a new market size for furniture in 2002 of £506 million, an increase of 15% on last year's figure of £440 million at retail value. Council members on that date included Alan Cranston (G W Scott); Leslie Harborne (Buttons) A Gray (Continenta) and K Paulus (K W Paulus). At the time tubular steel chairs and loungers with flowery cushions were all the rage and open charcoal barbecues or hibachi the only outdoor cooking implement.
