Barlow Tyrie is a family business that has been making outdoor furniture since 1920.
Over the years, the company’s furniture has earned a reputation for being of the highest quality, a standard they maintain by producing all their products in their own factories.
There is worldwide acknowledgement of the traditionally English designs of teak garden furniture currently made by the company, some first designed and produced by them in the 1920’s.
To its long established range of teak garden furniture, the company has added new designs in both teak and using new materials, stainless steel, aluminium and woven. Again, the highest standard of design, comfort and the materials used remains a priority.
Our teak furniture is made from first grade plantation grown teakwood (Tectona grandis) obtained from legal sources in Indonesia. Teakwood has a high oil content that makes it both stable and resistant to rotting when exposed to extremes of weather. For several centuries, this special quality has made teakwood the preferred choice for marine decking and construction and naturally, the premium timber for outdoor furniture
Outdoors and over time, teakwood will weather to a silver grey colour due to the affect of the ultra violet spectrum in sunlight.
For our stainless steel furniture, we use 316 Marine Grade stainless steel because it is much harder and has a higher resistance to rust than lower grades. Consequently, our furniture is suitable for use in coastal and marine environments without the problems associated with lower grades.
For our aluminium furniture, we use ‘Virgin Aluminium’, which means it is not reclaimed, thus making it stronger and longer lasting. We chemically
clean and then powder- coat the aluminium to prevent oxidation and ensure it gives long service.
Our woven range is made from synthetic fibre, which is very strong, colour fast and completely resistant to sun and rain. The range has been designed by Valdimir Kagan, one of today’s most enduring designers of modern furniture and is recognised as one of the most important furniture designers of the 20th century.
For the slings on our aluminium and stainless steel furniture, we use PVC coated, polyester non-stretch yarn. Using these fabrics, Textilene® and Jacquatex®, means our slings are strong, durable, mildew resistant, flame-retardant and require little maintenance. In the production of our slings, we use sonic welding to give a more aesthetically pleasing product than gluing or stitching.
For the canopy on our parasols, we use fabric made from 100% solution-dyed acrylic yarn. The colour locks deep inside the yarn to give excellent resistance to the fading often caused by sunlight and cleaning. The fabric has a stain repellent applied to make cleaning easier, which should be re-applied following cleaning. We design all our parasols to close over all of our dining tables.
For our cushion covers, we use Sunbrella® fabric made from 100% solution-dyed acrylic yarn. Sunbrella® fabrics are a guarantee of easy care; they dry quickly, give excellent fade resistance plus the ability to withstand vigorous cleaning. Sunbrella® fabric has a stain repellent applied, which makes cleaning even easier. Available in sixteen different colour choices.
