MADE AWARE SCHEME CHARTER
This charter sets out the aims and objectives of the Made Aware environmental impact scheme, along with the responsibilities and requirements of participating member companies.
The Made Aware scheme is relevant, and open to, any member of LOFA that sources, produces or imports garden furniture, barbecues or charcoal for the UK market.
The aim of the Made Aware scheme is to encourage and enable participants to bring about progressive improvements in the environmental and social impacts of the products they are involved with and where practical share these improvements with members. Detailed guidance on how to achieve these improvements is set out in the Made Aware scheme handbook.
By signing this Charter, we agree the following objectives.
- We will know the stories of our products, covering well being, finite limits (resource requirements), climate, and poverty.
- We will endeavour to explain to our consumers how to minimise the impact on the environment of using LOFA products.
- We will exhibit leadership through knowledge and action.
- Quality and safety will not be compromised.
- We will design our products to make recycling as easy as possible.
Participants are required to:
- Obtain appropriate information on their product stories, using the forms provided.
- Use this information to identify opportunities to bring about improvements.
- Work with suppliers to implement one or more of these improvements.
- Provide evidence, or obtain it from suppliers, on the impact of these improvement actions.
- As the initial phase of improvements is achieved, update their product stories and use these to identify further improvements.
