Handy Hints - Synthetic Resin/ Resin weave

"Synthetic Resin" is the term used to describe a compound consisting of plastic materials of organic origin and materials deriving from minerals. As a result the synthetic resin can be moulded under heat and is highly resistant to atmspheric ageents. Now often used to describe any moulded furniture. Synthetic Resin is extremeIy weather resistant and is capable of being moulded in a variety of shapes. Outstanding characteristics of Resin include stability, strength, lightness, rigidity and durability. Colourants are added during the moulding process to produce a range of colorways to suit all tastes.  Resin has also been used to make a woven material similiar in appearance to rattan furniture.

Most 'plastic' furniture stacks for storage, and may be left outside all year with minimum maintenance.

To restore the brightness of the furniture after a season in the open, just wipe with a sponge using warm water and a liquid detergent of cream product.

More recently there is a combination of aluminium frame with a resin weave ( i.e. plastic). The resin weave is often very similar in appearance to rattan. Some rattan furniture is coated with a resin product to make it more hardy for outside.

Some newer products have an aluminium frame and 100% resin weave which gives low maintenance and durability for outside use.  Cushions should normally be removed if the furniture is to be left outside particularly during the winter.
