Handy Hints- Cushions

Almost all garden furniture is sold with cushions of some kind, creating an enormous choice in quality, style and appearance.

Make sure that cushions are flame resistant and ask to see a certificate supplied by the manufacturers if you are not sure. Even if the cushion is to be used outdoors it must Have passed the inflammability test.

Cushions should be cleaned regularly to prevent accumulated dirt becoming embedded in the fabric. We recommend using a mild natural soap solution in lukewarm water (4fl° C I 100° F) Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry. Do not use detergents. We suggest cushions are cleaned before long term storage in a dry, well ventilated area.

The application of a proprietary soil and stain resistant protective coating is highly recommended.

Cotton either satinised, mixed with viscose, or plain is used widely in a variety of plain and printed designs. Cotton offers great comfort, particulary in the warm weather. Of the man made fibres, acrylics are particularly durable. Rot and mould resistant, they are often used to produce an attractive selection of modern stripes either printed or dyed in the yarn. Lower priced cushions are generally produced using a staved bonded fabric.

All colours will in due course, fade when exposed to strong light, but the high quality materials such as yarn dyed acrylic, and vat dyed cottons have superior colour retention qualities. Care should always be taken to insure cushions are not left outside overnight or when rain threatens.
