Handy Hints- Cane / Woven
Furniture made from Cane / Woven, rattan, willow or bamboo is very suitable for leisure use, but is not intended for permanent use outdoors.
Weather resistance depends on constructiion and materials used. This fuurniture, lightweight,and portable, is partcularly 'at home' in the conservatory and easily carried outdoors when required.
Rattan, at the top end of this market is often dyed to match modern furniture fabric design. Bamboo is normally used in designs requiring straight lines, while willow is naturally flexible andd contoured to produce chairs and sofas which offer comfort without the necessity of upholstery.
Selection of upholstery will be a major consideration,with a choice of fabrics and designs available to complement any surroundings. Most premier Cane / Woven furniture is now available with a sprung base for added comfort.
More recently there is a combination of aluminium frame with a resin weave ( i.e. plastic). The resin weave is often very similar in appearance to rattan. Some rattan furniture is coated with a resin product to make it more hardy for outside.
Some newer products have an aluminium frame and 100% resin weave which gives low maintenance and durability for outside use. Cushions should normally be removed if the furniture is to be left outside particularly during the winter.
