Guide - Injection-Moulded Plastic-Furniture

Plastic seats and backs moulded in either polyethylene or polystyrene are used extensively in conjuction with tubular steel frames. The moulds are frequently designed so that the same mould can be used for both the seat and the back of a chair and also to form stools or benches in conjuction with different frames. These are usually low cost items and are normally stacking chairs. Somewhat more expensive items are produced having a complete shell for the seat and back, this can provide a much higher degree of comfort, being moulded to suit the body's natural contour.

As with all garden furniture there should be adequate drain holes to ensure that rain water does not collect on the seat or elsewhere, The moulded plastic can of course be of any colour to match current fashion trends and, since much of the tubular metal is plastic coated, this can be made to exactly match the colour of the mouldings. Some colours, particularly dark colours, can be prone to discolouration or loss of colour mainly due to prolonged exposure to strong sunshine.
